How to Choose the Right ERP Integration Partner for Your Construction Business
Do you have a software problem or frustration that’s hindering your business’ efficiency or success?
Choosing who builds your ERP integration is a bigger decision than it looks. The integration will run in the background of your operation every day — moving financial data between your field platform and your accounting system. When it works, nobody notices. When it breaks, everyone does.
Here’s what to look for and what to ask.
Do They Know Your Specific Platforms?
Generic integration platforms (Zapier, Make, Boomi) can connect almost anything — but they don’t know Sage 100 job cost structure, or how ServiceTrade handles invoice line items, or what happens when CoreLogic DASH updates its claim schema. Contractors are better served by a partner who has done their specific combination before and knows where the edge cases live.
Ask: “Have you built ServiceTrade + Sage 100 before? BuildOps + Sage 300? How many clients are running this combination?”
Who Maintains It After Go-Live?
Both your field platform and your ERP release updates. APIs change. Export formats change. If your integration partner handed you a connector and disappeared, every platform update is a potential outage. A managed integration means someone else is watching for those changes and handling them before you notice.
Ask: “When Sage releases a new version, what’s your process? When ServiceTrade changes their API, how do you handle it?”
What Does Support Look Like?
When the integration breaks at 8am on payroll day, who do you call and how fast do they respond? Get specifics — not “we have a support team” but response time commitments and a real point of contact.
Do They Handle Contractor-Specific Complexity?
Multi-company deployments, union payroll, Canadian ERPs, three-way syncs (field platform + payroll + ERP) — these are common in contractor operations and uncommon in generic integration work. Ask whether your specific complexity is something they’ve handled before.
